Optimist International Essay Contest
Optimist International Essay Contest sponsors three scholarship contests for students to earn money to pursue opportunities in higher education: the communication contest for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, the Essay contest, and the Oratorical Contest. The contests are conducted at the Club level, then Zone and Regional, and at the District level. District-level scholarships are funded by the Optimist International Foundations and awarded by Optimist International. Students must be under age 18 and must show proof of age. The topic for this year's essay is "Optimism: How It Connecs Us". The rules for typing the essay can be found in the contest rules, Section III on the website: Optimist International. Rural Voices Youth Contest
The 2023-2024 Rural Voices Youth Contest gives eligible high school seniors the opportunity to win $1000. Students must write an essay or create a short video reflective of this year's theme "Rural Kansas...Success Through Innovation". Delta Theta Chi Sorority Scholarship
Delta Theta Chi National Education Sorority is offering a scholarship that is available to any high school student. Applications for three scholarships, in the amount of $1,600 each, are being accepted by DELTA THETA CHI SORORITY, a national non-collegiate educational sorority starting November 1, 2023. These scholarships are awarded annually to students of promise and distinction. Requirements call for all of the applicants to reside in the United States, or a Territory of the United States, and have the following: a high scholastic average, evidence of financial need, currently enrolled or planning to enroll in an accredited college, and submit an application form, with attachments as specified by the National Executive Council, which are listed on the application. Kansas Kiwanis Foundation Scholarships
Kansas Kiwanis Foundation Scholarship – High school seniors can complete to be considered for a Kansas Kiwanis Foundation Scholarship. The application is available on the Kansas Kiwanis Foundation website. It is very important that students complete all sections of the application, obtain required signatures and letters of support, and submit the complete application to the PO Box provided on the application by the February 1, 2024 deadline.
DSO Electric Cooperative Scholarship
DSO Electric Cooperative, Inc. will award many $1,000 scholarships to its members or their dependents pursuing higher education in Kansas in 2023. Available to current high school seniors and all college students who are dependents of active DSO members. Possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Ivy A. Monk Scholarship Trust Program
Ivy A. Monk Scholarship Trust Program sponsored by UMB Bank is for high school seniors from designated schools in Dickinson, Ottawa, and Saline counties in Kansas who have a minimum 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale who plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college or university or vocational-technical school for the entire academic year. Salina Family Healthcare Foundation Scholarship
Salina Health Education Foundation (SHEF) – the parent company for Salina Family Healthcare Center (SFHC) and Smoky Hill Family Medicine Residency Program (SHFMRP) – is proud to open the SFHC Scholarship fund for applications, for the first time since its creation earlier this year. This scholarship program honors former Board and Finance Committee members’ dedicated service to SHEF. This scholarship will grant approximately $500 to student(s) planning to enter the practice of medicine, dentistry, behavioral health, pharmacy, optometry, healthcare ancillary services, or healthcare administration in the State of Kansas. Alma Olson & Michael T. Olson Scholarship is available for students attending North Central Kansas Technical College and provides varying amounts of aid. Applicants must plan on obtaining a degree in one or more of the building trades (electrician, bricklayer, plumbing, heating, and air conditioning, etc.) Applicants need not have graduated from high school or attained a specific GPA. Booker T. Washington Scholarship
The Booker T. Washington scholarship is for students graduating from any Saline County high school. One new $500 scholarship will be awarded. This scholarship is eligible for renewal for up to three years. Applicants must be an African-American student who has graduated or currently qualifies for graduation from any Saline County High school and accepted to attend any accredited post-secondary institution. Applicants must be of good character. Applicants must submit a resume or a list of community and school activities, honors, and recognition(s) received (if any), employment, and volunteer activities. Applicants must submit an essay outlining why they want to pursue their education beyond high school. All other criteria being equal, awards will be based on the highest GPA and on financial need. Florence Evelyn Westhoff Scholarship
The Florence Evelyn Westhoff Scholarship was established to assist students with ties to the University United Methodist Church, Salina, KS. Applicants should be connected with, but not necessarily members of, the University United Methodist Church (UUMC), Salina, Kansas. Applicants must be Salina area residents eligible for graduation or a graduate from a Salina area high school or have a GED. Applicants must be accepted to any accredited post-secondary institution. Scholarships will be awarded based on need. If there are no applicants associated with UUMC, the scholarship may be awarded to a student attending Kansas Wesleyan University. Frances E. Curtis NAACP Scholarship
The Frances E. Curtis NAACP Scholarship was established to assist students with ties to the NAACP-Salina. Applicant must be eligible for graduation or have graduated from a high school located within Dickinson, Ottawa or Saline Counties. Applicant must be accepted for admission to an accredited post-secondary institution. Applicant must be active in or have a close family member active in NAACP-Salina. Applicant must have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA. Applicant must submit an application, including an essay and letters of recommendation. Application opens November 1, 2023. The Jeanne B. Marts Scholarship was established to provide assistance to Salina area students who are intending to major in elementary or secondary education. Applicant is in good standing qualifying for graduation from a Saline County High School. Applicant has a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA. Applicant is involved in extra-curricular activities. Applicant demonstrated leadership in school or community activities. Applicant is accepted to an accredited college with an intended major of elementary or secondary education. Applicants must submit a 1-page essay on what they value in life and how continued education will contribute to that pursuit. Application opens November 1, 2023. Orpha J. & Ernest Milbradt Scholarship
The Orpha J. & Ernest Milbradt Scholarship was established to assist students attending KSU or KU. One new $500 scholarship will be awarded. This scholarship is eligible for an annual renewal for up to three years. Applicants must attend either KSU or KU. Applicants must have a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA. Applicants must have participated with success in extracurricular school activities (e.g., forensics, music, athletics, etc.). Applicants must have exhibited a strong sense of community involvement (volunteer activities, church activities, etc.). All merit criteria being the same, awards will be based on need. Wally Beets-John Marino Scholarship
This scholarship honors two individuals who displayed great devotion to the Salina Country Club, its members and the employees; Wally Beets, an accomplished golfer, teacher and Golf Professional and John Marino a devoted and proficient General Manager. This scholarship is open to any Salina Area High School Senior/Graduate. Applicants currently are or have been employed by the Salina Country Club within the 24 previous months. Applicants must be eligible to attend or are currently attending any accredited post-secondary school. Applicants must have a 2.0 minimum GPA. Applicants must provide a letter of recommendation from a current or former teacher, or another adult for whom the applicant has studied or worked - outside of the Salina Country Club. Applicant should display strong characteristics in one or more areas including: leadership, community service, extra-curricular school activities or employment. All merit criteria being the same, the primary basis for awarding scholarships will be student financial need. All applicants shall be judged on the merit of the application with regard to the criteria outlined above, and no special preference shall be given to applicants because they may be members of the Salina Country Club. The Linda K. Freeland Early Childhood Education Scholarship was established to assist any Saline County high school graduating senior pursuing a major in early childhood education. Preference will be given to graduates of Salina Central or Salina South. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA between 2.5 and 3.5. Must be accepted to an accredited college with an intended major of early childhood education. Marcella Dowling Oakes Art Scholarship
The Marcella Dowling Oakes Art Scholarship was established to assist any Saline County high school graduating senior pursuing a degree in an art field (e.g. visual arts, fine arts education, digital/graphic arts, architecture or design). Applicants must have strong skill in drawing and submit up to three examples of their work that demonstrates their drawing capabilities. The work shall be representational to realism in nature, using traditional to contemporary 2-D medium (no relief art). Applicants will need to submit a personal statement about how they will utilize their drawing skills to accomplish their future career goals. Mary Olson & Viola Olson Gustafson Scholarship provides a varying amount of aid to students attending Cloud County Community College and plan to obtain a degree in nursing or a related medical field. Preference will be given to applicants who have attained grades that place them in the top quartile of their high school graduating class. David E. Freeland Scholarship
The David E Freeland Scholarship is available to Salina South or Salina Central seniors who plan to attend Kansas State University and major within the College of Business Administration with preference given to applicants intending to major in accounting. Preference is given to applicants with a cumulative GPA between 2.5 and 3.5. Applicants must submit an essay that states why they have chosen a major in the College of Business Administration. Richard and Lou Ann Bergen Scholarship in the Creative Arts
Richard and Lou Ann Bergen Scholarship in the Creative Arts is available to High School seniors from Saline County interested in the creative arts (arts and humanities) either through their proposed area of study or extra-curricular Activities. Preference will be given to students who plan to major or minor in the creative arts field. Students must have a minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA and plan to attend 1 of the following four-year colleges: Bethany, Kansas City Art Institute, KSU, KWU, KU, or WSU. The Coyne Family Scholarship
Any person of immigrant parents in the USA, whether the parents have acquired citizenship or not, and whose parents have not had a college education or any professional certification, is eligible to apply for a scholarship. Applicant must be a graduate or high school senior eligible for graduation, planning to pursue post-secondary education at a college, university, vocational, or technical school. Washburn University Leadership Scholarship
Direct from high school students must have a GPA of at least 3.0 and an ACT score of 24 or higher. Accepting a leadership scholarship commits a student to participate in Washburn University’s Leadership Institute. This is an approximately $1,000 per year scholarship, renewable for up to four years. Earl Bane Foundation Scholarship
The Earl Bane Foundation is proud to announce the dates for the 2023 Earl Bane Scholarship program. Ten $2,500 scholarships will be awarded to seniors graduating from high schools in Saline County. The scholarships are renewable for seven additional semesters if all the criteria are met. The total value of a scholarship could be $20,000. The technical program scholarship is renewable for a total of 4 semesters, with a potential worth of $10,000. The eligibility criteria are listed in the application form, however, demonstrating a strong work ethic and enterprising potential are most important. Salina Noon Rotary Club Scholarship
The Salina Noon Rotary Club is offering scholarships to worthy Saline County High School graduates. This year, we are offering scholarships up to $1,500. Financial need, leadership, scholarship, grade point average and community service are the criteria by which applicants will be judged. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. To assist students who are pursuing career technical goals, SkillsUSA Kansas will award a maximum of six (6) scholarships per year. FRS is a national organization promoting rural America. Through its members, like Nex-Tech, FRS offers programs to engage youth. The FRS 2021 scholarship program awarded $87,000 in 2022. KSU Tomorrow's Teacher Scholarship
KSU invites future teachers to apply for the Tomorrow’s Teacher Scholarships that will be awarded to incoming freshman students enrolled in the College of Education at Kansas State University. There will be four scholarships of $5000 each and one for $2000 awarded this year. These five scholarships are renewable for all four years. There will also be six $500 one-year scholarships awarded. If you wish to apply for this scholarship, you must complete the Tomorrow’s Teacher Scholarship Application by March 1, 2024. Initiated by the class president, Jack Moore, who encourage other members of his class to donate to provide a scholarship as a "payback" from graduates of 1940 to future graduates of Salina Central High School. Application is available at Salina Education Foundation is due by March 1, 2024.
Dennis G. Pugh Scholarship
The Dennis G. Pugh Scholarship annually will award approximately $400 to a senior at each Salina public high school. Any senior at a Salina public high school who intends to pursue post-high school education is eligible. A student's educational goals may include college, vocational training, apprenticeship, or job skill development. The scholarship trustees will select the students who, like Major Pugh, are dedicated to pursuing excellence through education and service to others. Rick O'Neill Legacy Scholarship
Rick O'Neill career as a teacher and coach spanned 43 years. He retired in May 2022 after 40 years as a teacher and coach in Salina, the majority of which was spent at Salina Central High School. Rick's wife and sons established this scholarship to honor Rick upon his retirement. The Scholarship will award a $ 750.00 award to a graduating senior from Salina Central. Owen E. Hodgson Scholarship
The Owen E. Hodgson Scholarship is given in honor of a long-time educator whose exemplary Salina career as a teacher and administrator spanned nearly forty years and touched the lives of thousands of students. The Owen E. Hodgson Scholarship Committee will award $500 to a graduating senior from Salina South and Central High Schools. The grant requires plans for full-time attendance at a college, university, community college or other post-secondary institution. The award will be made by the committee on an objective and nondiscriminatory basis. Applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA and have demonstrated the persistence, responsibility, high ideals, and good character that Mrs. Hodgson valued. Financial need will be considered in the committee's decision. A completed application, including three letters of reference, should be submitted to Mrs. Fitzpatrick by March 1, 2024. Miss N Scholarship
The Miss N Scholarship honors Anne Nettleton, a beloved artist and teacher. The $500 scholarship recognizes a current USD 305 graduating senior planning to major in art education or visual arts from an accredited degree-granting institution.

Salina Central Millennium Scholarship
The classes of 1998, 1999, and 2000 created this scholarship to honor the memories of their Central High classmates whom they have lost. The idea to create a scholarship came from Adam Burnham Hulstine as part of the preparations for the 20th reunion of the class of 1999. When Adam passed just before the reunion, his classmates organized to bring his idea to life. At least one $250 scholarship will be awarded annually.

James & Helen Maupin Scholarship
The James and Helen Maupin Scholarship honors the life of James Maupin who devoted 22 years of his life to USD 305 as a building operator. Funds to support this scholarship have been donated by Mr. Maupin's wife, Helen, and his daughter Nancy Cook. The James and Helen Maupin Scholarship is $100, awarded annually. Reuben R. Montoy Memorial Scholarship
Reuben Montoy was a life-long Salina resident. He taught and was an administrator for over 30 years and touched the lives of thousands of USD 305 students. His family and friends have established the scholarship in loving memory of Reuben, hoping to carry on his positive influence. Ellevation Education Scholarship
Ellevation has established a scholarship program to assist students who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs. Applicants of the Ellevation Education Scholarship Program must: 1) Be a high school senior who has been enrolled as an English Language Learner (ELL) at some point during their K-12 education. 2) Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year. Kansas Crime Stoppers Scholarship
The mission of Kansas Crime Stoppers, "Reaching Across Kansas to Stop Crime,' is implemented in many ways. We involve youth whenever possible in our local organizations. We further support the youth of Kansas by offering one high school senior a scholarship of $500. In order to apply for this award, a student must be a senior in good standing, and on target to graduate from an accredited Kansas high school. The application must include the attached Scholarship Form as well as a letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, or Crime Stoppers member with knowledge of the character and accomplishments of the student. In addition, the students must include an original essay describing their future goals and objectives. A non-returnable photo is requested for media purposes. All materials must be completed and received at the above address by March 3, 2023. The scholarship will be awarded on April 25, 2022. It is non-renewable. Payment will be made when Kansas Crime Stoppers receives evidence of enrollment as a full-time student (12 hours minimum) at an accredited Kansas institution of post-secondary education for the fall semester of 2023.
Oliver Hagg Memorial Scholarship
Applicant must be a current resident of Saline County. Applicant must be a spring graduating senior entering college or vocational school in the fall. Applicant must be majoring in the Agricultural field. Three letters of recommendation must accompany the scholarship application. (Suggestions for letter: school counselor or teacher, civic leader, 4-H club leader/project leader) Applicant must have at least a 3.0-grade point average. Scholarship can be renewed. Agriculture Future of America Scholarship
Agriculture Future of America offers a $3,200 academic scholarship as well as a $1,000 leader development award to attend the AFA Leaders Conference during the fall of the freshman year of college. Kansas Junior Golf Scholarship
The Kansas Golf Foundation awards academic scholarships to five deserving Kansas Junior Golfers, both men and women, through the Kansas Junior Golf Scholarship. Applicants must have participated in high school golf or in junior golf activities. Combined Scholarship Fund of Greater Fort Riley, Inc offers scholarships for high school seniors, college students, and military spouses, all of which must be either a son, daughter, or spouse of all ranks of the military (active duty, retired, or deceased) in the greater Fort Riley area who plan to attend any accredited college, university, vocational, or technical school. Additionally, seniors who are planning to attend K-State are also eligible to apply for the K-State/Fort Riley Partnership Scholarship program by checking and signing that portion on page 8 of the scholarship application. Elizabeth Miller Watkins Memorial Scholarship
For student’s planning to attend the University of Kansas for the 2023-2024 academic year. The EMWMS is an annual, renewable award for female identifying students of all disciplines admitted or attending the University of Kansas. A minimum 3. 0 GPA and demonstrated financial need is required. Special consideration is given to first generation students and current or incoming residents of Watkins and Miller Halls. Awards are administered at $4,000 annually for a maximum award amount of $16,000 per student during their time of study. The Kansas Association of Directors of Plant Facilities promotes bringing the buildings and grounds profession to a greater height of knowledge and professionalism and has established a scholarship fund and will award 7 $3,000 academic scholarships and 3 $3,000 technical scholarships to qualifying students. These scholarships are available only to graduating seniors of non-instructional support staff who wish to continue their education at the college level or technical school. The students must be residents of Kansas and graduate from a Kansas High School and plan to attend a Kansas college or technical school. Nick Charvat Memorial Vocal Music Scholarship
In September of 2010, Nicholas Charvat tragically died at the young age of 30. Music and education were a huge part of Nick's life. Nick was employed with Smoky Valley, USD 400, teaching grades 6-12; he had previously worked for Robinson Middle School for seven years, which feeds into Wichita East; and, he grew up in Salina, Kansas, and graduated from Salina South High School. Because these schools and music programs were all very important to Nick, we have set up an annual $500 scholarship fund in his name to be awarded to a student at one of these three schools. In 2022 the Board awarded $2,000 scholarships to four very deserving area students. The Board of Directors for Saline County Farm Bureau Association examines every application, and they make their decision based on several factors but most importantly on student need. murthwaite Scholarship and Leadership House
Smurthwaite is a wonderful community of women who work to build each other up. Throughout the year, we hold events, big and small, to foster our community. We are also the least expensive residence hall at K-State, and in addition to our low price, we offer on-site parking and free black-and-white printing. In exchange for low rates, Smurthwaite residents participate in weekly cleaning and desk duties. Smurthwaite residents also complete a list of requirements throughout the year. Kansas Financial Scholars Essay Contest
The Office of the State Bank Commissioner, the Kansas Insurance Department, and its division, the Office of the Kansas Securities Commissioner are sponsoring an essay contest to award up to five scholarships to Kansas high school seniors who, through school course, independent study, and personal experience, have gained an understanding of money management and can demonstrate that knowledge and the importance it will have in their future. Catholic Daughters of the Americas Scholarship
The Salina Court will award one $500 scholarship to a Salina Catholic female student entering college in the Fall of 2023. The applicant must be a member of a Salina Catholic Church. An essay of approximately 500 words typed and double spaced, entitled "How has my Catholic Faith strengthened my life and how will it enhance my decisions as a college student?" The essay must be submitted with the cover sheet. Letters of recommendation from the applicant's Pastor and CYO Pastor/Sponsor (if the applicant is a CYO member). The Kansas Association of Mappers (KAM) is now accepting applications online for the John Cowan Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship provides financial assistance to students within the State of Kansas pursuing a professional career in the field of Geography attained through a geographic-focused education. The Ellis Foundation
The Ellis Foundation, in partnership with Evergy, is accepting applications for graduating high school seniors interested the trades, specifically Linemen, Wind Technology, Diesel Mechanic, Electrical Technology or Power Plant. These scholarships offer up to $2,000 a semester for up to four consecutive semesters. These are fields with good employment outlooks, short-term programs, reasonable costs, and good salaries. Kansas Kids @ Gear Up Scholarship
If you have participated in Kansas Kids Gear Up and are currently a senior in high school, or are a current college student (who has participated in KKGU), you may be eligible to receive a scholarship from KKGU. Bethany College - Good Life Scholarship
Bethany College will begin offering tuition-free scholarships to all students graduating from a Saline County High School for the next five years beginning in the fall of 2017. Students must live on campus and meet Bethany's admissions criteria. Priority deadline for admission to Bethany is April 1 of each year. Children of Fallen Heroes Scholarship
Under this scholarship, a Pell-eligible student whose parent or guardian died in the line of duty while performing as a public safety officer is eligible to receive a maximum Pell Grant for the award year for which the determination of eligibility is made. To qualify for this scholarship, a student must be Pell-eligible and be less than 24 years of age or enrolled at an institution of higher education at the time of his or her parent’s or guardian’s death. In subsequent award years, the student continues to be eligible for the scholarship, as long as the student has a Pell-eligible EFC and continues to be an eligible student. Redfin Scholarship will provide $2,500 to a legal U.S. resident who is graduating high school or a current freshman, sophomore, or junior in college attending an accredited university or college.
